I know that with each of my kids, when I was pregnant with them, I would read to them. Then once they were born they were not only really familiar with my voice, but it seemed that when I would read to them, they would pay attention to me reading. Once they got a little bigger, I would get the soft books that they could hold and look at. I know that they loved their first books. They loved to look at the pictures and for me to read what was on each page. I think that reading to your babies from the very beginning then giving them the soft books to start with then the cardboard books, is a great way to interact with your baby and help with shaping their language, imagination, and social skills. I love seeing the reactions of my kids faces when I do different characters in stories. I love being able to talk to my kids after reading and asking them about what they think about the stories we read. With babies they still have a reaction and they also watch the expressions in our faces when we interact with them. Reading really helps them relate to and build an understanding of these reactions. Learning Curve is a company that I love and have used with my kids. Lamaze now has a line of books that are perfect for babies and toddlers.
