Food Safety Tips for Summer Grilling

According to the CDC, food poisoning is the culprit for around 48 million illnesses, 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths across the nation every year. To stay germ-free this summer, it is essential that you practice safe food prep to ensure you are not serving your family and friends a side of bacteria.

·         Use a glass cutting board when slicing raw meats and vegetables. The surfaces of plastic and wood cutting boards can be cut by knives during food preparation, and bacteria can hide in these porous areas.
·         Check your refrigerator settings and keep fresh meat and seafood at 40°F or freeze it. Bacteria grow more quickly when items are stored at the wrong temperature.
·         Use different trays to take raw meat outside and bring cooked meat inside when barbequing. Wash the tray used to transport raw meat as soon as you bring it inside with a dish liquid like Ultra Palmolive® Antibacterial to help avoid cross-contamination.

Very informative post! I try to be careful when I'm working with raw foods. I try separating the cook foods away from the raw ones whenever I can. I've used the new Palmolive soap before and it's great! Thank you for the tips about grilling!

Palmolive is great. People don't realize about all the contamination that can happen especially when bbqing/grilling during the summer.

48 million is a huge number for an illness that we all should already be aware and wary of. You just never know when insurance will come in handy.
