Take Me Fishing $100 #Giveaway Bass Pro Shops (2011 Holiday Gift Guide) Closed!

Like other families out there, my family enjoys spending time outdoors. We love to hike, go camping, hunting and one thing that we love to do at all different times of the year is fishing. A few years back, we lived fairly close to a lake that we spent most of our free time at. This was a place that we first taught our daughter to fish at. We spent most of our summers at this lake, fishing and swimming. My husband celebrated his very first Fathers Day, the day after I got home from the hospital with our son, at the lake. Mind you, we met up with our friends that day to show our new baby off. Robert spent his first weekend home from the hospital, at the lake fishing. It also helped with his jaundice to be in the sun that weekend. The first time we took my daughter out fishing she was about 2 years old, and that day she ended up catching 3 fish with a Barbie fishing pole, while the other four men that were there never even got a nibble. After that first trip my daughter became a natural fisher. While most kids who would be at the lake would gross out and scream when they got a catch, my daughter was ready to take her catch home and clean it then cook it for dinner!! I think that is the what my kids love about fishing. Not only do they get to catch their fish, but we help them clean their fish and they also help cook it for a meal, so they appreciate the whole process more! Every year for Christmas we renew our annual fishing licenses, so that we can continue to enjoy that family activity together. Recently we took the Anglers Legacy Pledge. With this pledge we pledged to share our love of fishing with at least one new person each year and to pass on our shared knowledge, traditional skills with our friends and family. We love taking our kids and showing them how to fish and appreciate their catch, we also love teaching them about the different fish that we might come across. Since Robert was born, he has gone with us on regular fishing outings, and Estrella has been going since she was about 2. In all we have enjoyed every single outing. I find that taking the kids fishing we can talk, and the kids really seem to open up. When we go fishing, we all know that we are going to be there for a while and that catching the fish might take a while. During the time we are waiting on the catch, we can talk and really bond. It is a time that we dont have the computers, video games, cell phones or TVs to distract us. We can talk and listen to one another, we also can have a lot of fun. Which, I dont think we have ever gone fishing where we dont have fun. Being on a very tight budget, we cant afford to go on vacations, and to go to theme parks, so we make the best of what we can do, and fishing is one of those activities that you dont have to spend money to do. We use worms, which we can get in our back yard, and which the kids find to be very fun to get for fishing! Fishing is also one of those activities that doesnt hurt the environment. We dont have a boat, so we fish off shore, on a dock or in the marina if it is open. We use worms for bait and the rules for us being outdoors is, "Take out what you take in" that way there are not any lines or trash left behind. We also love to go fishing at all times of the year, whether it is cold or hot, as long as its not raining or snowing that day we can go fishing and have fun! We went fishing last weekend with Robert and he, as always, loved it. We did not catch anything that day, but the catch really isnt what is important when you go fishing with your kids, it is the bonding that really matters!! Since we have such a huge love for fishing in our home, we were sent a great fishing package. We were sent a very cute photo frame for us to put a family fishing photo in, a very chic message in a bottle that was just way too cute, and a very cute tin that looks like a tackle box with a $100 gift card from Bass Pro Shop!! My husband opened the package and was like a little kid at Christmas when he saw the gift card, then when I told him how much it was for, he ran to the computer to start shopping at one of his favorite stores, lol!
