Teach them that everything costs money and we can't just but things we want all the time especially if we can't pay cash for it. Also, they can do chores for small amounts of money so they learn you have to work to make money. nlevdan3 at yahoo dot com

What I can do to help my grandson learn about money is to set a good example and not make unnecessary purchases by wasting money.We can also play with "play money" so he can learn the values of each bill or coin.

Teaching them the value of a dollar! Give them an allowance for doing chores. Nothing big! Have them save up for a small toy or ice cream!

My sons school has a savings program where a local credit has opened accounts for those that are interested. Every Wednesday my son is able to make a deposit of as little as 0.25 and he gets a prize each time. This has helped him save every bit and not want to miss a week.

My 5 yr old niece has little chores she does around the house, and earns an allowance from us. She also does small odd jobs to help her earn extra money. She knows you have to have money to do almost anything, and that she must earn and save her money. All the money she earns right now goes into a small piggy bank in her room. And she only takes out the little bit that she needs and carries it in her wallet in her purse.
She's really good about saving up her money, because she likes to be able to buy little gifts for people on her own at the holidays and birthdays. It makes her feel very grown up. She usually gets paid daily when she's with us, but sometimes we hold off on paying her allowance til the end of the week as well, and she's very good at keeping track of what we owe her at the end of the week lol. I love that this product would help her take her money saving a step further.
