I am a Texas girl. I lived in Austin when I was a kid. Then about 10 years ago, I moved back to Texas, to Amarillo. That being said, I was raised on Texas style Bar-B-Q. I can tell you that there is nothing else like it! One place that I can remember frequenting to when I was younger for some really great Texas Bar-B-Q was Rudy’s. There was a Rudy’s in the San Antonio area and in Austin that we would go to and their distinct taste is one a person can not forget. Their flavor is so authentic and not one you will get at any other bar-b-q joint around! Well, a few years ago, a Rudy’s Bar-B-Q opened up here in Amarillo. Now I am sure there were plenty of locals who were excited about the opening, but I felt that for myself, it was like bringing a piece of my childhood home, and something that I can now share with my kids as my parents did with me. I wasnt the only one who felt that way either, when my parents came to visit after the Rudy’s in Amarillo went up, my dad made it a destination that he had to go to every time he comes to visit. Recently I was given the chance to take my family to eat at our local Rudy’s for review. I love how when you go inside, you have the line which you go through to place your order and get your bar-b-q. The smells of the food cooking is so delicious that it makes the wait in line so worth it! The servings can be bought for individuals, but they are made for families and groups, so that once you have your order you can go to one of the picnic style tables and pass around the bar-b-q, like you would do at home or at a family cookout. Then with the sauce, you can add your own sauce and choose whether you can do the Rudy’s Original Bar-B-Q Sause that has a great kick to it, or if you have to go with the Rudy’s Sissy Sause that is there just for those who cant handle the heat, lol! I love how family oriented Rudy’s is and how the environment in every Rudy’s I have been in is very friendly and inviting! That being said, and since Amarillo is off of I-40, which is a interstate highway that many travel especially during the summer months, if you are traveling and happen to be going through Amarillo, make it a point to stop by Rudy’s and either dine in or go through the drive through. Also, if you are just driving through and you want to get some really great bar-b-q sauce, then check out the store inside our Rudy’s and stock up! Since we are in the peak of Bar-B-Q season, the wonderful people from Rudy’s would like to celebrate summer by giving one of my amazing readers their own taste of Texas, by giving a reader a Sausey Basket which has a 38 oz bottle of the Rudy’s Original Sause, 18 oz bottle of the Sissy Sause and a 12 oz container of the Rudy’s Rub in a fun Texas shaped basket!!
