When it comes to the summer and finding ways to beat that dreaded summer brain drain, I find that as a parent, that I like to seek out not just the activities to help keep the kids engaged but also the books as well. For me, this is something that I not only do when we head out to the bookstores or go online to seek out new books to read, but that my kids also enjoy doing. And with each of my kids, I know that they not only enjoy different genres but also have different tastes in the levels of reading due to the various ages in my home. So when we were sent the new book, The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night, I was excited to share it with my teen so that she could add it to her summer reading list!
In the book, The Crowns of Croswald, you get a story that takes you into the world of magic, where you have a kingdom that has a evil ruler. Kids in this world attend a school of magic called Halls of Ivy, where the kids learn to master their powers along with learning about the powers that the gems of Croswald have. And like many kids in this magical world, a young lady named Ivy finds herself with powers that she learns to master when she enrolls in the magical school.
Ivy is a child who is not only magical, but who is unique in a few different ways. This includes the fact that she is a orphan, who was treated badly and finds herself living on the streets after being thrown out of the castle she both served and grew up in. Along with her being alone, Ivy finds that her powers are strong, and that she is unique, and as she learns more about her powers, finds that she might be the one who can save Croswald from the evil that rules over the people.
Estrella has found this fantasy book to be one that she has enjoyed reading, and a book that she has been sharing with her friends as well. She liked how the story really grabbed her attention, and included characters that she could relate to with having them being of similar age to my daughter. She also liked how it is similar to the Harry Potter series that she has enjoyed reading, taking her to a magical world. Making the new book, The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night a book that will make a great one to add to your middle schoolers reading list!
