Bad Habits That Damage Your Teeth

Dental
hygiene is something that should be taught from an early age so that we all
have a healthy smile and dental problems are avoided. You can get some
excellent information on dental health on various health websites and blogs,
but some things are bad for our teeth, and we should avoid them if we want to
have a happy and healthy smile. So here are some of the most dangerous bad
habits that can leave permanent damage to your teeth so are best avoided.

Bad Brushing Habits

Whether
you speak to a
dentist
in Noosa
on the Sunshine Coast
or one in Perth on the West Coast, they will all tell you that over brushing
and brushing too hard will damage your teeth. Although it is important to make
sure that you brush your teeth regularly, it is also important that you do not
brush them too often or too hard. Electric tooth brushes can be an excellent
tool for cleaning your teeth, but overuse and pushing down too hard on it can
wear the enamel down on your teeth causing permanent damage. An ordinary
toothbrush can also cause similar damage if used too often and too hard.

Grinding And Clenching
Your Teeth

Another
bad habit which can have a harmful effect on the health of your teeth is
grinding them or clenching them which is something that can be done while
sleeping as well as being awake. You can have a custom made teeth and
prosthetic gum device which fits perfectly onto your teeth and gums and will
help prevent any damage
caused by grinding your teeth while you sleep. If this is a problem that you
have, you need to speak to a dentist about it before you do irreparable damage
to your teeth which may mean you will have to consider a crown or dental
implant.

Biting Your Nails

Another
bad habit is biting your nails, which can introduce lots of potentially harmful
bacteria into your system that was hidden under your finger nails. As well as
potentially making you sick from a variety of different bacteria’s, biting your
nails can also lead to jaw and tooth damage which could be not only painful but
also expensive to fix. Your nails will also look much nicer if you cut them
correctly, as well as helping to keep your smile beautiful and healthy!

Dangers Of Smoking

There
are many health risks when it comes to smoking that can affect a variety of
aspects of a person’s health, even their teeth and gums. Not only do you run
the risk of a multitude of different cancers and other illnesses, but tobacco
also stains your teeth and your fingers yellow and smells bad as well as looks
unappealing. A quick search of the internet will show you all of the different
oral related illnesses that are related to smoking, which should be enough to
steer you away from this bad habit which is becoming increasingly less socially
acceptable.

So
if you want to have a shiny white smile full of healthy teeth and gums, take
good care of your teeth and avoid these potentially nasty habits which could
end up leaving you with a crooked smile.
