As the summer travel season is at its peak, what’s your favorite luxury to make life easier when you are away from home? As anyone who travels a lot can tell you, sometimes it’s the little things that make your hotel room feel more like home. On our recent vacation to Daytona Beach, I knew we’d be at the beach or in the pool at least once a day. One thing I always hate on vacation is sink laundry and I was dreading it when it came to cleaning the sand and chlorine out of our swimwear every day. Hotel sinks are sometimes too small, other times, they leak and won’t hold water. In any case, I always feel like I end up using too much detergent and never rinsing it well (while trying to make space at the sink for the kids to brush teeth and get ready for bed). When our new product scout gave me a chance to try out the Allurette delicates washer , I knew this was just the thing for our summer travels. It was small and lightweight enough to easily make room for it in our luggage. The design seemed pretty simple, very similar to a ‘dry bag’ with a few extra features to adapt it for on-the-go laundry. I especially loved the instructions on the outside and the viewing window on the side.
I ended up using this a lot on vacation and was very happy with it. When we finished at the pool or beach, I could load the wet swimwear into the Allurette delicates washer and it kept my beach tote and extra clothes dry. Once we got back into the hotel, I simply added water and detergent to the fill line indicated on the side. Then I rolled the top down, connected the buckle and used the air release valve to press out all the air from the bag. Next, I simply kneaded the clothes inside and rubbed them on the gentle scrubber panel on the back. If I needed to pause for a few minutes to let the kids use the sink, no problem! After the quick wash, I refilled the bag for the rinse cycle and again agitated the clothes inside a bit more. Voila! The swimwear was all clean and ready to hang out to dry for the next day’s adventure. I also used this bag to clean up some of my kid’s underpants after a little accident – it worked great and I was able to disinfect it with a Lysol wipe before using it again.
This Allurette delicates washer is pretty simple, but it’s perfectly designed to make your small hand washing jobs easier when you are away from home. I’m looking forward to taking it on our camping vacation later in the summer and I’ll try letting the kids wash out their own swimwear this time!
