If you have not heard about the trend of essential oils, you must be in hiding. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years, but today we are perfecting the making and use of these natural wonders.
From changing your mood, to changing your life, essential oils are the way to go. Many people have incorporated these oils into their everyday lives with fantastic results. We are going to share with you a few ways essential oils are part of our daily routine.
Number 1 – Essential Oils for Sleep
We are going to start this list with sleep. Why? Because sleep affects every part of your life. If you do not sleep well, you cannot be at your best. You will be moody, you will have trouble with focus, and your productivity will fly right out the window.
There are a few ways you can use essential oils to help you sleep. The most popular one is Lavender. Note: With all essential oils, make sure it is 100% pure essential oil. There are many oils that can be used for fragrance. Some are put over a tea candle and warmed. These are air fresheners, they are not going to help you physically. There are many places you can buy a wide range of essential oils.
Because lavender is so relaxing, you can use it as a rub, and if you use it in a diffuser it will help you sleep soundly. If you want to mix it up a little, mix it with 2-3 drops of lemongrass, and sweet-orange is also a good option.
Number 2 -Morning coffee, tea, or hot chocolate (Energy and focus)
3 drops of peppermint oil in a cup of hot tea, will give you an energy boost and help you stay focused. If you are into hot chocolate, add cinnamon oil and peppermint. Note: Peppermint is a natural pain-killer so you can take it with you. Just a smell of the oil in a bottle can kill pain such as a headache.
Number 3 -Shower away stress and sinus problems
If you have a problem with allergies or you just want a morning shower that will put some pep in your step, try this.
Use a dish that fits on the side of the shower where the water is not directly hitting the dish directly. Fill the dish with cotton balls and add:
- 6 drops eucalyptus
- 6 drops bergamot
- 6 drops basil
- 10 drops any citrus (grapefruit or tangerine are great)
The steamy shower will cause the oils to fill the air and you will feel alive and ready for anything.
Number 4 -Taking care of your pet
We love our pets and we want to keep them healthy and happy. Every year we have to watch out for fleas and ticks. They make our pets itch and sometimes they make them sick. They also will bring these pests into your home. When flea and tick season comes around, bath your dog with your favorite shampoo. Instead of pouring the shampoo on the dog, pour it into your hand. Add 4 drops (for a small dog) or 10 drops (for a large dog) of tea tree oil to the shampoo. Wash the dog well and rinse. You can add a couple of extra drops behind on the back of the neck and work it in well. Towel dry and brush as usual. Tea tree oil will not kill these pests but it will keep them off your pet.
Note: this also works to keep head lice off school-aged children.
Number 5 – Condition your face
After you wash your face every day, massage 2-3 drops of rose oil onto your wet skin. After you have massaged your whole face, pat dry with a cotton washcloth.
Number 6 – Keep feet and shoes from odor
Drop 4 drops of peppermint oil and 4 drops of eucalyptus in a travel size bottle of water. Shake well and spray your feet well. Let them dry and you will not have smelly feet or shoes and your feet will not be as tired.
Number 7 – Bad breath
There are many reasons for bad breath. No matter what the cause, no one wants it. Use spearmint essential oil and it will be gone, After brushing your teeth, put 2-3 drops of spearmint oil on your clean (wet) toothbrush. Brush your teeth with it. If your problem is a bad one, put two drops under the tongue. DO NOT swallow it. Rinse and spit. Keep a travel toothbrush and a bottle of spearmint oil in your desk or car in case you have a lunch of wonderful garlic or onion-flavored foods.
Number 8 – Weight control
Grapefruit essential oil speeds up the metabolism and helps fight cravings. 4 drops mixed into your favorite moisturizer is all it takes. It will absorb and you will be able to lose weight and keep it off.
There are many ways to use essential oils, it is hard to go wrong.
