We all know how a healthy lifestyle is a combination of a healthy diet along with the right level of physical activity. The prevailing consensus seems to be that a healthy diet can have a much larger influence on your general health (and weight) than exercise. With nutrition and diet out of whack, the effectiveness of any physical activity and exercise goes way down. However, it isn’t always easy to make the right choice about what to eat (or to even know what might be the right choice). There are a few foods that have survived the evolving body of occasionally contradictory knowledge through the years and remained on the list of high nutritional value foods and chia seeds are one of those. We recently got introduced to one of the tastiest and easiest ways to include chia seeds in your diet, and that is through the snacks and beverages from Mamma Chia.
What are Chia Seeds?
For those scratching their heads and wondering what are chia seeds, here is a quick primer: “Chia is an edible seed that comes from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, grown in Mexico dating back to Mayan and Aztec cultures. “Chia” means strength, and folklore has it that these cultures used the tiny black and white seeds as an energy booster. That makes sense, as chia seeds are a concentrated food containing healthy omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium”. In simpler terms, chia seeds are one of the richest plant-based source of Omega-3 in the world, very high in dietary fiber and a complete protein.
Introducing Mamma Chia
Mamma Chia is a company focused on sharing the benefits of chia seeds through organic snacks and beverages. They were the first ones to introduce a chia beverage in the market, and have won numerous awards and accolades through the years, since their start in 2009, for the taste and nutritional value of their products. We got to try a few flavors of the Organic Chia Squeezes and the Chia Granola Clusters and while we can leave the health benefits part to the nutritionists, we can definitely attest to the taste. The barely-noticeable and subtle taste of chia seeds is perfect for adding to other foods, and the slightly crunchy texture is enjoyable as well. We should mention that the texture is something that might be something unique for some as the tiny seeds are covered in a gel-like membrane.
Whether you eat the Granola Clusters for breakfast or enjoy a quick snack of one of the Squeezes, all these chia-based snacks are great for leaving you full, and satisfied in the knowledge that you are eating something good for you. The Squeezes can also make for great additions to kids’ school lunch boxes, where finding the right mix of taste and nutrition isn’t always easy.
We have also partnered with Mamma Chia to offer one of our readers an opportunity to try out a box of their products (Mamma Chia’s Granola, Chia Squeezes and some coupons for free beverages), by entering in the giveaway box below:
